BWCA 2009 - Part 1
Adams Lake
The original plan was to loop
through the remote interior portions
of the BWCA on the Frost and
Louse rivers in search of moose.
Unfortunately, due to high winds
and a stolen portage yoke, I was
unable to travel that far.  I opted
instead to wander the area of the
Kawishiwi River north to  beautiful
Adams Lake and back again to my
starting point on Kawishiwi Lake.

To my disappointment I saw no
moose.   Luckily, I was presented
with many wonderful scenes and an
experience I will always remember.

Blueberries
The blueberries and raspberries were in season and grow everywhere in this
region.  Needless to say, they were part of every meal.

PART 2
PART 1   >>Next>>
I followed this curious Mink for 20 minutes one
evening as it patrolled the riverbank for food.  He
seemed just as interested in me as I was with him.
Early morning departure from Adams Lake.
Every morning I woke before dawn, tore down camp and was off in the canoe before sunrise.  I would just drift in
the fog drinking my morning coffee and scan the shoreline for wildlife.  Occasionally,  I would make a few casts
with the fish pole, but mostly I would just sit and listen to the loons and take it all in.  This is what makes those
boring and lonely nights alone in the wilderness worthwhile; complete and utter tranquillity.

My view from camp on Adams Lake.
The winds calm and the sun comes out after an
evening shower on the Kawishiwi River.  Look close
and you can see the swarm of mosquitoes.
A blurry and poorly lit photograph of a Black Bear
swimming across the narrows of Malberg Lake.  The
only image I got from this fleeting moment.
Mergansers searching the shoreline for food.
